The cocoa bean was cultivated in Ecuador 5,000 years ago, but today the highly aromatic Arriba Nacional fine cocoa can only be found in a few parts of the country, where 'Arriba' means upstream. The cocoa beans that give our 'plantation chocolate' its recognizable character come from the regions along the rivers. The equatorial line running through the country influences the climate and nature in such a way that Ecuador is considered one of the most biodiverse countries in the world.
