Advent calendars from Rausch give the sweet anticipation of Christmas

The Advent calendar - a Christmas tradition that has become indispensable. It is as much a part of the Christmas season as Santa Claus, the Christmas tree and presents.

History of the Advent calendar

The original idea of an Advent calendar developed in German-speaking countries as early as the 19th century and was intended to shorten the waiting time until the day of Christmas. Especially for children, for whom time is something very abstract, the anticipation was significantly increased and the wait was made easier.

However, these were not yet Advent calendars as we know them today, but simply Christmas pictures hung up daily or chalk lines on doorposts and cupboard doors.

The idea of the printed Advent calendar as we traditionally know it today dates back to 1904, when Gerhard Lang published his Advent calendar with self-written texts and Christmas motifs. He was inspired by his mother, who sewed 24 cookies onto a numbered cardboard box when he was a little boy.

Gerhard Lang, who comes from Malbronn in Baden-Württemberg, had many ideas and tirelessly developed new Advent calendars. Including the chocolate Advent calendar.
