At last! This summer, Rausch shipped the first harvest from its own fine cocoa plantation 'Tres Equis - Finca de Cacao' from Costa Rica to Hamburg and developed a new high-percentage fine cocoa chocolate. The 'Rausch Plantagen Costa Rica 84 % Cuvée Prestige', with the highest percentage of fine cocoa that Rausch has ever processed, achieves completely new taste facets thanks to the different characteristics of the varieties combined in it and is a chocolate for real cocoa enthusiasts. The designation "Cuvée Prestige" comes from the wine-growing industry and is only awarded to a composition of the best varieties. For the 'Rausch Plantagen Costa Rica 84 % Cuvée Prestige', several fine cocoa varieties are blended together to find the optimum balance for the new chocolate.
The new dark variety not only stands out visually with its high-quality gold embossing on the packaging - it is the top product in the 'Rausch Plantagen' range and combines the 9 best fine flavor cocoas from Rausch's own plantation, which the Berlin-based family business has owned since 2014. The best varieties in the world are cultivated there, innovative cultivation and post-harvest methods are researched and the intensive exchange and transfer of knowledge with partners is further expanded. The 40-hectare 'Tres Equis - Finca de Cacao' is located within sight of the mighty 3,325-metre-high Turrialba volcano, nestled in the tropical rainforest and bordering one of Costa Rica's "Wild Life Corridor" national parks. No rainforest was cleared for this heart project; instead, depleted pastureland was reforested and fine flavor cocoa was cultivated within a mixed culture, a so-called agroforestry system. In this way, diversity on the plantation is maintained and even promoted. Patience is required from cocoa cultivation to harvest, as a cocoa tree needs three to five years before it can bear fruit for the first time. This year the time has finally come.
